Angry words making their way to her ears,
What did she do to elicit your rage?
Opening the floodgates, releasing tears,
Feeling alone like a dog in a cage.
Simply expressing her thoughts and concerns,
No need for mockery, scorn, or fury.
For respite from this cruel pattern she yearns,
Who gave you the role of judge and jury?
Seemingly boundless cycle of discord,
She’s not everyone else, this much is true.
Slicing through her like a double-edged sword,
An oft-bruised soul rendered more black and blue.
Fertile garden suffering from this clash,
A once-hopeful future rendered to ash.
“If the world’s a veil of tears, smile till rainbows span it.” ~ Lucy Larcom
