Redress

Things will never be the way that they were,
Impossible to recapture the past.
After all the hurt I had to incur,
Considering the many stones you cast.

Of course, I remember when we began,
How I believed your hollow promises.
‘Fore you kicked me around like a tin can,
And placed prerequisites on your kisses.

I don’t think you know the damage you’ve done,
I will never forget feeling betrayed.
Far too frequently I wanted to run,
No more suffering alone and afraid.

Against my judgment I’ll give you a chance,
So we can work on relearning our dance.

“All discarded lovers should be given a second chance, but with somebody else.” ~ Mae West
